Morning in Wisła-Czarne: fir forest scent, the stream outside your window, dew on the grass. As the Beskids shift into golden-ochre tones, a true explorer’s passion wakes. Instead of asking reception only for the best route to Barania Góra, we more often hear: “mushrooms in the Beskids—where to pick?”
Great news: Vislow Resort is in a mushroom-rich area. Wear comfortable shoes, take a wicker basket, and step out from your apartment door to start your forest adventure.
Reliable and safe forest picking spots nearby Vislow Resort
Mountain mushroom picking is different from lowland walks: a sharp eye helps, but so do comfortable paths and easy navigation through the terrain. For safe, exceptionally scenic routes, start here:
- The Valley of the White and Black Wisełka: right next door. Stream paths are gentle, wide, and safe even for walks with children. The valley’s damp microclimate suits bay boletes (prawdziwki), goat’s-breads, and smaller boletes at the edges of beech–spruce forests.
- Around Mała Zapora and the Czerniańskie Reservoir: A short walk from the resort toward Lake Czerniańskie. The local slopes are covered with old spruces and firs, under which you’ll find fine, choice porcini. This is the perfect option for a quick, one-hour trip before lunch.
- Lower slopes of Barania Góra: Routes from Czarny toward the summit offer dense conifer woods. Staying on marked walking paths and forest logging tracks, you’ll come across whole families of milkcaps and chanterelles (edible peppery chanterelles). Remember only not to enter the Strict Nature Reserve “Wisła”—we pick mushrooms exclusively in managed forests outside the reserve boundaries!
- Dobka and Partecznik Valley: if you want a short drive from Wisła, these wooded, gentler slopes are known for abundant milkcaps and chanterelles.

A mushroom forager’s mountain
The Beskids forests are generous, but they deserve respect. A few simple rules will make mushroom picking pure pleasure:
- Twist or cut gently: don’t damage the mycelium—lightly twist the stem right by the ground, then cover the hole with forest litter so the soil doesn’t dry out.
- A basket, not a plastic bag: use a cloth tote or a classic wicker basket for airflow. Mushrooms in a plastic bag sweat quickly and lose flavor qualities.
- The 100% certainty rule: Pick only specimens you’re completely sure about. If the cap makes you hesitate, leave it in the forest—let it delight someone else’s eyes.
- Keep an eye on the trail: in the mountains it’s easy to lose time and direction staring at undergrowth. Download an offline map in advance (e.g., mapy.cz) and check often that you’re not straying too far from the paved path.
Forest relaxation after returning to
The best part starts after you return to the resort. Tired yet oxygenated feet will sink into the warmth of our sauna area, and an aromatic forest-fruit tea tastes totally different in the hotel lobby bar—especially with a basket of forest trophies nearby. With kitchenette areas in the apartments, you can clean and prep right away: a fragrant scrambled eggs with chanterelles for dinner or drying porcini, whose scent you’ll take home.
Mountains, quiet, moss scent—plan your autumn weekend in Wisła-Czarne and see how many treasures our Beskid paths hide!
P.S. A tip from the Vislow team:
Remember: mountainous terrain needs proper prep. Best picking is in the morning, when dew helps you spot glistening porcini caps. For higher areas around Barania Góra, wear stable shoes with good trekking soles—Beskid slopes can be deceptive and slippery.
